PTA Puts Ban on All Kind Of SMS & Call Packages: Report

Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has imposed a Ban on all kind of SMS and Call Packages irrespective of time of the day here in Pakistan.
According to the details, PTA has described the reason below;
Directive Relating to Packages Offered by CMTOs Contrary to Moral Values of Society” reasons a survey conducted in November 2012 which suggested PTA that voice and SMS bundles were still active.
Telecom operators are still unsure on how to react. Bigger operators are considerably happy about the directive which is a blessing in disguise for them. Smaller operators, such as Zong and Warid are furious for apparent reasons.
Analysts say currently the industry is derived by these voice and SMS bundles. If not reversed, the whole dynamics of telecom industry of Pakistan will change.
Internet Packages will not be affected.

Dawn News Group Pakistan

Dawn News was Pakistan's 24-hour Urdu news channel. Based in Karachi, the station is a subsidiary of Pakistan Herald Publications Limited (PHPL), Pakistan's largest English-language media group. The test transmission of the station occurred on May 25, 2007, and the channel went live on July 23, 2007. On May 15, 2010, Dawn News converted into an Urdu news channel after successful test transmission of four hours a day. The conversion is mainly due to its financial crisis and thin viewership in the country. Now Express 24/7replaced it as the Pakistan's only English news channel for a brief time, which was also then shut down by Express Media Group for financial reasons.
Dawn News' Test Transmission was launched by former President of PakistanPervez Musharraf. The complete launch of the channel coincided with the result of the Supreme Court case which cleared the Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, who had been suspended by General Musharraf. The channel was initially housed in Haroon House, the head-office of PHPL, but later moved to its current premises in West Wharf, Karachi.
The channel has an online stream available on its web site for foreign viewing.

History

The founder of Pakistan, Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah launched the Dawn newspaper in the 1940s- it is the oldest English language newspaper in Pakistan.
The Dawn Media Network launched DawnNews, Pakistan’s first English language news and current affairs television channel, according to DawnNews they vow to "provide its viewers with a medium that is responsible, credible and balanced.
After a brief test transmission, the channel went live on July 23, 2007. Over past three years the channel has established its fame being the most credible voice in the murky pool of electronic media, in Pakistan.
Probably, the most talented and hardworking journalists of present time have been associated with the channel since the beginning. Some of them left to pursue their career in the same profession. Nonetheless, with superb hard-work and dedicated they converted the dream into a reality.
Keeping in view the public demand, DawnNews has decided to launch a separate Urdu news channel. But before launching the separate channel, it has started a three-hour Urdu transmission within its English channel’s airtime. The purpose is to get valuable feedback from the viewers. So far the feedback is tremendous.
DawnNews has broken a number of big stories. It was DawnNews which exclusively broadcast the footage of the assassin of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto. It was DawnNews that got official confirmation from Pakistan that lone surviving gunman of Mumbai terror attacks – Ajmal Kasab – was a Pakistani.
Besides, DawnNews has covered major events including Lal Masjid operation, lawyers’ movement, military operations in tribal areas and 2008 general elections. Most of the time, the channel beat its rivals despite limited resources.
Dawn News transmission is watched in all urban areas of Pakistan. It also has access to the rural population, wherever the cable reaches. Dawn News is in agreement with several satellite TV channels, which include BBC World, Sky News, ABC News and Al-Jazeera and can be watched in the US, Europe, Middle East and Africa. In U.K. it can be accessed through Sky cable at Channel 845.

President Obama to mark 50 years since King's 'Dream'

Words from the first black US president and bell ringing around the world on Wednesday will mark 50 years to the minute that civil rights leader Martin Luther King ended his landmark “I have a dream” speech.
Capping a week long celebration of King's historic call for racial and economic justice, President Barack Obama will speak at the Lincoln Memorial, site of King's address on Aug. 28, 1963.
The “Let Freedom Ring and Call to Action” ceremony comes as almost half of Americans say much more needs to be done before the color-blind society King envisioned is realized.
Former Presidents Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton also will address the crowd at the ceremony, which includes bell-ringing at 3 p.m. EDT (1900 GMT), 50 years to the minute after King ended his clarion call of the civil rights movement with the words “let freedom ring.”
About 50 US communities or organizations have said they will ring bells. The Swiss city of Lutry and Tokyo are also taking part, said Atlanta's King Center, one of the event's organizers.
Other organizers include the National Action Network of civil rights leader Al Sharpton, the Southern Christian Leadership Conference and the National Council of Churches. The ceremony follows an interfaith service at Shiloh Baptist Church in Washington, organizers said.
Obama's address will wrap up more than a week of Washington events around the anniversary. They included a march on Saturday that drew thousands of people urging action on jobs, voting rights and gun violence.
King, a black clergyman and advocate of non-violence, was among six organizers of the 1963 “March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom,” where he made his address.
King's speech is credited with helping spur passage of sweeping civil rights laws. A white prison escapee assassinated the Nobel Peace Prize winner in 1968.

Memories of Iraq delay Britain's plans for Syria strike

Prime Minister David Cameron's plans for an imminent military strike on Syria were thrown into disarray on Thursday after a protest by lawmakers warning him to heed the “lessons of Iraq”.
The prime minister was forced into an awkward position on Wednesday in the UK Parliament when members from the opposition Labour party and lawmakers in his own Conservative party said they wanted more evidence before voting for military action.
It was unclear how Britain’s internal political hesitancy regarding the strike would affect the plans of United States and France for an imminent strike.
The government published an opinion from one of its top advisers on Thursday, showing that it was legally entitled to attack Syria given the current circumstances.
It further stated that should the UN Security Council block action, Britain was still be permitted under international law to “alleviate the scale of humanitarian catastrophe in Syria”.
The intelligence dossier accompanying the publication stated that there was no doubt that chemical weapons had been used in the poison gas attack that killed hundreds last week.
However, the memory of the Iraq war effectively diluted support for the prime minister back home with regards to the proposed strike in Syria.
Almost a decade ago, Britain had helped the United States (US) to invade Iraq after asserting – wrongly, as it later turned out – that dictator Saddam Hussein possessed weapons of mass destruction.
The country, already involved in war in Afghanistan, lost 179 troops in eight years of war after Iraq descended into savage sectarian conflict.
PUBLIC OPPOSITION
The potent memory, of Iraq, however, is reflected not only in party politics, but also in public opinion surveys.
YouGov, an international internet-based market research firm founded in the UK, published a poll on Thursday showing growing public opposition to the proposed strike in Syria.
According to the results, only 22 per cent of the British public favour the missile strike, while 51 per cent of the people oppose the proposition.
Opponents said Britain has neither the money nor the evidence to justify further military action in the Middle East.

UN chief awaits Syria report as Assad vows to resist attack

US President Barack Obama said Wednesday he has yet to make a decision on hitting Syria over horrific attacks last week that activists say killed hundreds of people and threatened to draw the West into the brutal 29-month conflict.
A Western bombing blitz had appeared imminent earlier this week, but US allies were increasingly reluctant to act before hearing the results of a UN chemical weapons probe.
Ban said the UN experts – on a third day of inspections of alleged attack sites near Damascus – would leave Syria by Saturday and report to him immediately.
He appealed to divided international powers to work together to head off military action against Syria, where the UN says 100,000 people have been killed and several million made homeless since the conflict erupted in March 2011.
“Diplomacy should be given a chance ... peace (should) be given a chance,” Ban said.
With any US-led missile strike unlikely to have UN Security Council backing, key Damascus allies Russia and Iran again warned against any Western intervention, saying it could set off a wider regional conflict.
Assad himself declared: “Syria will defend itself in the face of any aggression,” and said any attack would result in “victory” for the Syrian people.

Google Street View Driver Detained by Thai Villagers

Google Street View Driver Detained by Thai Villagers

If you were ever angry at Google for photographing your house and putting it up in Street View for all the world to see, learn that you are not alone. And then maybe send a nice gift basket to the people of Sa-eab village, northern Thailand.
About 20 Sa-eab residents stopped a Google Street View car and detained the driver, accusing him of being a government agent who was working for a controversial dam project.
The Thai villagers did not wait for the authorities to intervene and decided to take matters into their own hands. First they took the driver to a local office to interrogate him.
The man must have given the right answers, as the 20 Sa-eab residents then took him to a temple, where they asked him to swear on a Buddha statue that he was not spying on them on behalf of the dam project, according to Thai news website Prachatai.
Eventually, the villagers released the Google Street View driver and apologized both to him and to Google for the misunderstanding. They even apologized to the entire Thai nation and the world and explained that there had been many repeated cases of agents trying to survey the area in disguise.
Google responded by acknowledging the fact that any new project, including Street View, may encounter unexpected challenges and insisted that their mapping project fully respects Thai laws and only features images taken on public property.
Sa-eab, Phrae province, is located about 385 miles north of Bangkok and is known for its opposition to dam projects, both by environmental groups and by local villagers.
Thailand was the 35th country in the world to have Google Street View available and in 2011, the local tourism authority actually partnered with Google for a joint initiative to promote tourism by displaying images of top attractions and streets in several major cities.

This is not the first time the Google Street View project has had problems. The project is aimed at mapping the world with the help of photographs taken from passing cars, but its technology also picks up Wi-Fi signals. UK authorities recently ordered Google to delete all personal data gathered that way or otherwise face a lawsuit.

Telescope captures dramatic moment of starbirth

The glowing mass is called a Herbig-Haro object, 1,400 light-years away in the constellation Vela.

FLORIDA (AP): This is one baby picture you won t want to miss. The ALMA telescope in Chile has captured a close-up of the glowing material spewing from a newborn star. The stunning images show material streaming from the baby star at incredible speed, glowing as it plows into the surrounding gas and dust.
Astronomers say the illuminated jets are spewing out faster than ever measured before and are more energetic than previously thought. The glowing mass is called a Herbig-Haro object, named after U.S. and Mexican astronomers. This one is 1,400 light-years away in the constellation Vela.
ALMA is an array of 66 antennas and is relatively new. It s located in one of the driest places on Earth, the Atacama desert.

Palestinian hacker earns job offers

The stunt cost the 30-year-old Palestinian the bounty, but earned him praise and numerous job offer.

YATTA, West Bank (AP) - After discovering a privacy bug on Facebook, unemployed Palestinian programmer Khalil Shreateh said he just wanted to collect the traditional $500 bounty the social network giant offers to those who voluntarily expose its glitches.
But when Facebook ignored his first two reports, Shreateh took his message to the top and hacked into CEO Mark Zuckerberg s personal page to prove his point.
"Sorry for breaking your privacy," he wrote the Facebook founder, "I has no other choice to make after all the reports I sent to Facebook team ... as you can see I am not in your friend list and yet i can post to your timeline."
The stunt cost the 30-year-old Palestinian the bounty, but earned him praise and numerous job offers.
for being able to get to the boss of the world s most ubiquitous social network.
Shreateh, who lives near the West Bank city of Hebron and has been unable to find a job since graduating two years ago with a degree in information technology, told Facebook that he found a way that allowed anyone to post on anyone else s wall. "I told them that you have a vulnerability and you need to close it," he told The Associated Press. "I wasn t looking to be famous. I just wanted to make a point to Mark (Zuckerberg)."
In a message posted to the Hacker News, a user-driven security news site, Facebook software engineer Matthew Jones said the initial report was poorly worded, although he acknowledged that the company should have pressed for more information.
"As a few other commenters have pointed out, we get hundreds of reports every day," Jones wrote. "Many of our best reports come from people whose English isn t great though this can be challenging, it s something we work with just fine and we have paid out over $1 million to hundreds of reporters. However, many of the reports we get are nonsense or misguided, and even those ... provide some modicum of reproduction instructions."
Nevertheless, he said, "we should have pushed back asking for more details here."
He went on to say that Shreateh would not be paid from Facebook s bounty program because he d violated the company s terms of service namely by posting items to the Facebook pages of users he should not have had access to.
"The more important issue here is with how the bug was demonstrated using the accounts of real people without their permission. Exploiting bugs to impact real users is not acceptable behavior for a white hat," he said, using an industry term for ethical security experts.
Jones added that the bug was fixed Thursday. Facebook declined to comment beyond the post.
The bug and Facebook s response to it has become a talking point in information security circles, with many speculating that the Palestinian could have helped himself to thousands of dollars had he chosen to sell the information on the black market.
Shreateh said he was initially disappointed by the Facebook response but that after being inundated by job offers from all over the world he is pleased with how things worked out.
"I am looking for a good job to start a normal life like everybody," he said. "I am so proud to be the Palestinian who discovered that exploit in Facebook."

New Samsung 'Mega' phone nearly tablet-sized

Smartphones are getting bigger as people use them more to watch movies and play games.

A new one from Samsung is beyond big. With a screen measuring 6.3 inches (16-centimeter) diagonally, the Galaxy Mega is almost as big as a 7-inch tablet computer. The difference: It makes phone calls.

Samsung says the Mega is a hybrid that combines the portability of a smartphone with the immersive experience that a tablet offers for movies, books, music and games. Phones of this size are typically referred to as phablets.

Samsung Electronics Co. is known for big phones. Its flagship Galaxy S4 is 5 inches (12.5 centimeters), while the Galaxy Note 2 is 5.5 inches (14 centimeters). Apple s iPhone 5 is 4 inches (10 centimeters).

Samsung is also known for offering a variety of devices, with different screen sizes and prices, to target a range of consumers. Because of that, it s now the leading maker of phones. Apple, by contrast, has been releasing one model a year that targets high-end consumers. A new iPhone is expected this fall.

The Mega includes many features available in other recent Galaxy phones. That includes Multi Window, which allows multitasking in a split screen, and Easy Mode, which reduces the number of features and choices for new smartphone users.

AT&T Inc. says it will start selling the Mega on Friday for $150 with a two-year service contract. The Mega is also coming to Sprint and U.S. Cellular. Dates and prices weren t available for those carriers. The Mega made its debut in Europe and Russia in May, but hasn t been available in the U.S. until now.

As Samsung s phones get larger, at least one of HTC Corp. s is getting smaller. AT&T announced Monday that it will start selling a smaller version of the HTC One. Called the HTC One Mini, it will have a 4.3-inch (10.9-centimeter) screen, compared with 4.7 inches (11.9 centimeters) on the standard model. It s also lighter, at 4.3 ounces (122 grams).

The One is 5 ounces (141 grams). The One Mini will be about $100 cheaper than its big brother. It will be available starting Friday for $100 with a two-year service agreement.

Tired of helping the CIA? Quit Facebook, Venezuela minister urges

Tired of helping the CIA? Quit Facebook, Venezuela minister urges
A Venezuelan government minister on Wednesday urged citizens to shut Facebook accounts to avoid being unwitting informants for the US Central Intelligence Agency, referring to recent revelations about US surveillance programs.

Edward Snowden, a former US National Security Agency contractor who is stuck in a Moscow airport while seeking to avoid capture by the United States, last month leaked details about American intelligence agencies obtaining information from popular websites including Facebook.

"Comrades: cancel your Facebook accounts, you've been working for free as CIA informants. Review the Snowden case!" wrote Prisons Minister Iris Varela on her Twitter account.

Venezuela has offered to provide asylum for Snowden, but he has not responded and appears unable to leave the transit zone of Sheremetyevo International Airport.

He exposed a program known as Prism that relied on customer data supplied by major technology companies.

"Countries and people that have fallen victim to gringo spying should sue the United States to ensure fair compensation. We're going to bankrupt the US economy!" wrote Varela, known for radical rhetoric and ardent support of the late socialist leader Hugo Chavez.

Venice tourists get shock bill at outdoor coffee bar

Venice tourists get shock bill at outdoor coffee bar
ROME: Tourists going to Venice beware - and make sure you read the fine print.

Everyone knows the lagoon city can be expensive but seven tourists from Rome got a bitter surprise when their bill for four coffees and three liqueurs at an outdoor cafe topped 100 euros ($130).

The scene of the mishap was the famed Caffe Lavena in St. Mark's Square, where 19th century German composer Richard Wagner, who died in Venice in 1883, sat to have his morning coffee every day when he lived in the city.

What the Roman tourists - who posted their receipt on Facebook - apparently did not notice when looking at the menu was the "music surcharge" of six euros per person. It added up to 42 euros, or nearly half of the bill.

The owners of the famous cafe, which opened in 1750 and where clients are served by white-jacketed waiters as a chamber orchestra plays, defended themselves.

They said all the prices (six euros for a coffee and 10 for a liqueur) as well as the music surcharge, are printed on the menus.

"If they found the prices too high, they could have got up and gone somewhere else, like many people do, or have the coffee standing at the bar inside, where it costs one euro," Lavena's manager, Massimo Milanese, told the Corriere della Sera newspaper.

Facebook launching project to make Internet more affordable

Facebook launching project to make Internet more affordable
Facebook Inc's Chief Executive Mark Zuckerberg has enlisted Samsung Electronics Co Ltd, Qualcomm Inc and four other companies for a project aimed at bringing Internet access to people around the world who can't afford it, mirroring efforts by Google Inc and others.

The project is called Internet.org and will be launched Wednesday. It focuses on enabling the next 5 billion people without access to come online, Zuckerberg said.

"The goal of Internet.org is to make Internet access available to the two-thirds of the world who are not yet connected and to bring the same opportunities to everyone that the connected third of the world has today," said Zuckerberg.

Other players in the project include Ericsson, MediaTek Inc, Nokia, and Opera Software ASA.

The partnership will develop lower-cost, higher-quality smartphones and deploy Internet access in underserved communities, Facebook said.

Google said in June that it had launched a small network of balloons over the Southern Hemisphere in an experiment it hopes could bring reliable Internet access to the world's most remote regions.

That pilot program, Project Loon, took off in June from New Zealand's South Island, using solar-powered, high-altitude balloons that ride the wind about 12.5 miles, or twice as high as airplanes, above the ground, Google said. – Reuters

Time To Say Goodbye To Windows XP

We’ve all been Windows users at some point. Even many hardcore Mac users today probably have a strong history with the much maligned operating system. One thing that everyone will probably agree with is this: Windows XP is one of the best operating systems that Microsoft has served us consumers. And now, it is time to say goodbye to Windows XP.
Goodbye to Windows XP
It’s official. Support for Windows XP is ending on the 8th of August 2014. As is the norm with these things, users are given ample time to make the switch if necessary. For individual users, this should be an easy fix. The chances are you’re using Windows 8 already anyway.
For businesses, though, especially the small to medium sized ones, the one-year breathing space might be more than necessary. After all, it’s not only about changing operating systems. Hardware upgrades and new purchases may also be called for. Then there’s the learning curve to get used to the changes.
Of course, one may opt to stick with Windows XP till their device dies on them. Microsoft is not stopping anyone from doing that, but without support for the software, it’s very much akin to having a car for which you can’t buy parts anymore.  At the end of the day, you might as well make it easier on you then, by saying goodbye to Windows XP.
It is worth noting, though, that Microsoft has not scrimped on its efforts to convince people to stop using XP. In fact, they released an infographic wishing XP a happy retirement, urging people to upgrade to Windows 8. Considering the fact that 37.7 percent of PCs in the world are still running on Windows XP, Microsoft’s efforts are justified.

Smartphone Tracking Bins Switched Off in London

A British startup came under fire for using recycling bins to track people’s smartphones and identify their preferences in view of supporting personalized advertising.
A total of 12 smartphone tracking bins were installed across the UK capital by the startup, called Renew. But following several press reports on the matter and a complaint from a privacy campaign group, the City of London called on the company to stop using the bins.
Smartphone Tracking Bins Switched Off in London
All the 12 pods still in use were equipped with digital advertising screens and Wi-Fi to connect to any nearby smartphones.  The devices monitor and collect various information about the passers-by from their phones, which would allow advertisers to specifically target their messages to those people.
Renew has temporarily stopped using the smartphone tracking bins, but is challenging the City of London’s request. The company said the bins only recorded limited, encrypted and anonymized data, just like a website would monitor traffic. The bins collected absolutely no personal information about the smartphone owners.
The bins practically record the MAC address of any nearby smartphone or other device with Wi-Fi turned on. They do not know the identity of the person who walks by, but can easily determine the model and manufacturer of their smart device and can record the owner’s route, walking speed and direction. The technology can also figure out if a person walking by has taken that route before.
Before being interrupted, the technology was used to determine the smartphone market share in London. But it can easily be used for targeted advertising – specific ads would be shown to different individuals, depending on whether they own an iPhone or an Android phone, for instance.
The technology was installed on only 12 of a total of 100 recycling bins equipped with advertising screens, installed across London before the Olympics last year. Renew is hoping to expand the tech to all those bins, but also to other places around the world, such as New York City, Kuala Lumpur, Dubai, etc., and of course, to sell the idea to retailers.
Although the company gives assurances that the smartphone tracking bins do not collect any personal identification information, privacy concerns remain, as the MAC address could easily be paired with other consumer data in order to identify the smartphone owner.
For the time being, Londoners concerned about the technology have the option of opting out of being tracked, on the website of Presence Orb, the company that actually provides Renew with the tech. What do you think of the smartphone tracking recycling bins? Can they really be a threat to privacy?

Twitter University

School is back, no kids really it is! Well for social media development students it is anyway.  Everybody’s favourite micro-blogging website recently announced the opening of Twitter University.  The program is designed for engineers to get world-class technical training and gain the abilities to teach the skills which they have already mastered.
TU
Chris Fry, senior vice president of engineering, said in a recent blog post: ”We want Twitter to be the best place in the world for engineers to work” The social networking company already offers its employees an array of training opportunities, ranging from orientation classes to iOS Bootcamp courses.  These are taught by team members in an effort to develop a new skills set. “I’ve been inspired by those efforts,” Fry said. “Being able to continually learn on the job and develop a sense of expertise or mastery is a fundamental factor in success in the technology industry and long term happiness at a company.”  Twitter University will be vital for the company’s engineering department, he said.
To help run this program, Twitter has purchased an open-source training company called Marakana.  The company’s founders Sasa and Marko Gargenta have been teaching classes at the social network headquarters for several months now and “have been continually impressed by the engineering leadership, the company’s commitment to learning and the cultural fit between our two companies” they said.  Over the past ten years, Marakana has developed courses on HTML 5, Java, Android, Scala, Python, Hadoop, jQuery and other languages, delivering classes to more than 100,000 professional software engineers.
Developers are able to keep up with classes by following @TwU; the account already gained more than 700 followers since it launch.  That’s great for software developers, but what about us mere mortals?  Well, Twitter will eventually be releasing some of the University content online for anyone who would like to learn!

5 Ways to hack/protect the Facebook account

5 Ways to hack a Facebook account, something most of our readers always wanted to Learn, something new about Facebook Hacking.
Learn the best attacks for Facebook Hacking with their advantages and drawbacks.
Note:- This tutorial is for educational purpose only and may not be used for any blackhat purpose. The prime aim of this tutorial is to create awareness so that you guys can protect yourself from getting hacked.
Before learning the actual procedure you should know about different types of attacks, their drawbacks and prevention against these attacks .

1) Phishing :
The first and very basic way of hacking Facebook accounts is via Phishing. Phishing is actually creating fake web pages to steal user’s credentials like email, passwords, phone no,etc.
DRAWBACK :
Users nowadays are aware of these type of attacks and one can not be easily fooled using this attack. You need some social engineering to trick someone.

Prevention :
Always check the page URL before logging in. This is the most trusted and effective way one can use to avoid himself from phishing.
Other way is to use some good Antivirus software which will warn you if you visit a harmful phishing page.
Even if somehow you have already entered your credentials in a phisher, Immediately Change your password.

2) Keylogging :
This is another good way of hacking Facebook accounts. In this type of attack a hacker simply sends an infected file having keylogger in it to the victim. If the victim executes that file on his pc, whatever he types will be mailed/uploaded to hacker’s server. The advantage of this attack is that the victim won’t know that hacker is getting every Bit of data he is typing. Another big advantage is that hacker will get passwords of all the accounts used on that PC.
DRAWBACK :
Keyloggers are often detected as threats by good antiviruses. Hacker must find a way to protect it from antivirus.
Prevention :
Execute the file only if you trust the sender.
Use online scanner such as novirusthanks.org
Use good antivirus and update it regularly .

3) Trojans/backdoors :
This is an advanced level topic. It consists of a server and a client. In this type of attack the attacker sends the infected server to the victim. After execution the infected server i.e. Trojan on the victim’s PC opens a backdoor and now the hacker can do whatever he wants with the victim’s PC .
DRAWBACK :
Trojans are often detected as threats by good antiviruses. Hacker must find a way to protect it from antivirus.
Prevention :
Execute the file only if you trust the sender.
Use online scanner such as novirusthanks.org
Use good antivirus and update it regularly .

4)Sniffing
It consists of stealing session in progress. In this type of attack an attacker makes connection with server and client and relays message between them, making them believe that they are talking to each other directly.
DRAWBACK :
If user is logged out then attacker is also logged out and the session is lost.
It is difficult to sniff on SSL protected networks.
Prevention :
Always use SSL secured connections.
Always keep a look at the url if the http:// is not changed to https:// it means that sniffing is active on your network.
5)Social Engineering :
This method includes guessing and fooling the clients to give their own passwords. In this type of attack, a hacker sends a fake mail which is very convincing and appealing and asks the user for his password.
Answering the security questions also lies under this category.
Drawback :
It is not easy to convince someone to make him give his password.
Guessing generally doesn’t always work ( Although if you are lucky enough it may work!).
Prevention :
Never give your password to anyone
Don’t believe in any sort of emails which asks for your password
6) Session Hijacking
In a session hijacking attack an attacker steals victims cookies, cookies stores all the necessary logging Information about one’s account, using this info an attacker can easily hack anybody’s account. If you get the cookies of the Victim you can Hack any account the Victim is Logged into i.e. you can hack Facebook, Google, Yahoo.
Drawbacks :
You will be logged out when user is logged out.
You will not get the password of the user’s account.
Will not work if the user is using HTTPS connections.
Prevention :
Always work on SSL secured connections.
Always keep a look at the url if the http:// is not changed to https:// it means that sniffing is active on your network.
I hope this post will help you to  Secure Your Facebook Account
Please share this post with your friends and help us by spreading our content to public .

BlackBerry CEO could get almost $55.6M

BlackBerry CEO Thorsten Heins could receive almost $55.6 million if the company is sold and he is ousted from the top job.
Heins would receive $48 million in equity awards, based on the company s share price at the end of its latest fiscal year, according to a regulatory filing earlier this year. He would also get $7.5 million in compensation for his salary and bonus under the change of control provisions in his contract.

The company would pay $72,000 in benefits and retirement savings. The plan was approved by shareholders at its annual meeting on July 9.

BlackBerry announced that a sale of the company was one option that would be considered under a strategic review of the company, which has lost market share to Apple and Android-based phones. The long-awaited debut of its new phones this year has failed to turn around the struggling smartphone maker.

The company s strategic review is being headed by Timothy Dattels, a BlackBerry director and a senior partner at TPG Capital, one of the world s largest private equity firms. Fairfax Financial and its chief executive, Prem Watsa, which hold approximately 11 percent of BlackBerry, are considered among possible buyers.
Watsa resigned from the BlackBerry board on Monday due to potential conflicts of interest. If Heins were to be removed from his job at BlackBerry without a change of control, he would receive a package valued at $22 million, including $5.8 million in compensation for his salary and bonus, $72,000 in benefits and retirement savings and $16.1 million in equity awards. The BlackBerry, pioneered in 1999, had been the dominant smartphone for on-the-go business people and other consumers before Apple debuted the iPhone in 2007. In the years since, BlackBerry Ltd. has been hammered by competition from the iPhone as well as Android-based rivals. Heins was named CEO in January 2012, replacing co-founders and co-CEOs Mike Lazaridis and Jim Balsillie, who stepped down after shareholders demanded a management shakeup. This past January, the company unveiled new phones running a revamped operating system called BlackBerry 10 designed to better compete. But its market share continues to lag. IDC said last week BlackBerry has fallen to fourth place in global smartphone sales, now trailing Microsoft. BlackBerry also warned in June of future losses. CIBC analyst Todd Coupland suggested BlackBerry could be worth as much as $20 per share in a takeover, and that big technology companies as well as private equity firms could be interested. Mike Walkley, an analyst with Canaccord Genuity, said Tuesday the stock is up on takeover speculation. He believes the company is worth $8 per share.
